"The, Name of Jesus"

Philillians 2;1-11 1. If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4. Look not everv man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As believers there are some special privileges of ours that we allow to go untapped and underutilised. In the Bible there are those whose name bespoke a special mission to which they were called. Jacob's name was changed to Israel. Samuel the son of Hannah, who was barren and sought a son of the Lord, named her son Samuel, meaning "asked of the Lord./I John the Baptist was named by thi~ angel Gabriel, his father Zachariah the priest, confirmed that his name shall be called John. He was the forerunner of Jesus the Christ. We see Saul's name was changed to Paul, before that Simon (Cephas) was changed to Peter. One may ask, "what's in a name?" If you have never stopped to think about it, may I ask, will you call your son Judas? Or will you call your daughter Jezebel? If your answer is no, then, why do you not? I am so happy that my mother and father named me Clinton that has saved me lots of teasing and ridicule. I am yet to meet someone actually named Lucifer.

However, just as expectant parents carefully decide on the name for their child, the name, Jesus was chosen but concealed all through the Old Testament times, only to be revealed in the New Testament, when Mary was told in Luke 1:31,"And behold, thou shaf't conceive in thy womb, and brmg forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus." Everything about Jesus was unique and special, beginning from His Name. As declared by the angel, " His Name shall be called Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins. On Him the destiny of the world depended, He, Jesus is called the desire of the ages, the hope of the nations. It is of Jesus the prophet Isaiah declared, "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, the Government shall be upon His shoulders, and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. The people of the Old Testament knew something about the Name of the Lord. David declared that the "Name of the Lord (Prov.18:10) is a strong tower, the righteous run in and are saved." He confessed that all his victories were all in the Name of the Lord. Do you remember the words David said as he faced Goliath? David said, you come to me with sword and shield, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of hosts (lSam.17:45). In the Book of Esther, when Esther finally triumphed over her enemies, she was given the Kings signet ring that carried the King's name as a seal, that she could re-write the decree that was against her people, and then affix the royal seal, to make it the official law of the land. The Name of the Lord was always to be hallowed. In EX.20:7 it states thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Jesus in response to His disciples' plea, "Lord teach us to pray," Jesus taught them the Lord's prayer. The very first line of the prayer states OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME.

John14: 13-14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

In the Philippians passage, known as the "knosis" Paul skilfully takes us through the passion and humiliation of Christ. Jesus having passed the test, having undergone the vicarious suffering for all humanity, God was pleased of His offering for sin, and thus the way of salvation was made open for us all. Phill. 2:9 now speaks of His exaltation, Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him and given Him a Name which is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus, every knee should bqw, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Acts 4:18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Acts 5:40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that tl ey should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Acts 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

1 Corinthians 6: 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name o'f the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Colossi a ns 3: 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

There is power, in the name of Jesus. There is healing, in the name of Jesus. There is victory, in the name of Jesus. There is deliverance, in the name of Jesus. There is salvation, in the name of Jesus. There is redemption, in the name of Jesus. All that you could ever need is had in the name of Jesus. The word states that to us is given to calion the name of Jesus, Our Lord. The battle is the Lords; we need only to co-operate with the moving of the God's Spirit upon our lives, and win our spiritual battles IN THE NAME OF JESUS OUR ALL CONQUERING SAVIOUR AND LORD.
